Your Dream. God’s Plan.: Are You Longing for Something More? by Tiffany Smiling

YourDreamGodsPlan

Like a lot of young women, Tiffany Smiling had been assured that the path to fulfillment looked like the one she’d seen in her favorite movies: She’d be swept away by a soul mate, live in a southern estate, and start a family.

But Tiffany’s story unfolded quite differently.

Weeks after serving on her high school’s homecoming court, while doctors operated to remove the brain tumor that was killing her, Tiffany suffered a paralyzing stroke. In the nick of a scalpel she lost her beauty and most of her physical ability. Returning to high school in a wheelchair, head half-shaved and face distorted, Tiffany vowed to be normal and live the dream.

And for a season, she did.

But just when the fairytale was within reach, God surprised Tiffany. Wooing her heart, God convinced her that there was something even better in store for her.

. . .And He has something better in store for you, too.

Read Your Dream. God’s Plan. and see how the Lord wants to use the broken pieces of your life for His greater plan for you.

Smiling’s story will help you see the ways God is writing your own amazing story—designed for His glory and your fulfillment.

*****

Truly a powerful testimony to the strength that one builds up through the trials and tribulations thrown in one’s path. Though many would throw in the towel, there are those whose faith is actually strengthened by the turmoil that is placed before them. Some even turn to God and listen to what He has to say to them! Tiffany Smiling is one of those people…a special and inspiring person with a tremendous story.

A Case For Faith by Lee Strobel

CaseForFaith_PA

A journalist investigates the toughest objections to Christianity. Despite the compelling historical evidence, many people grapple with serious concerns about faith in God. “If God is love, then what about all the suffering in our world?” “If Jesus is the door to heaven, then what about the millions who have never heard of him?” In The Case for Faith, the second in a series of three DVDs based on Lee Strobel’s books, Strobel turns his tenacious investigative skills to the most persistent emotional objections to belief – the eight “heart” barriers to faith. The Case for Faith, based on Lee Strobel’s Gold Medallion-winning book, is for those who may be feeling attracted to Jesus but who are faced with intellectual barriers standing squarely in their path. For Christians, it will deepen their convictions and give them fresh confidence in discussing Christianity with their most skeptical friends.

Another excellent documentary for viewing by all. Well worth the time to watch to deepen one’s faith and to deepen one’s personal knowledge as to “Why?” you believe what you believe! An excellent aid in one’s repertoire of understanding.

A well accomplished documentary from the perspective of a man seeking the truth, regardless of where the truth may lead him. Many others used within this documentary for those who watch in order to follow and see where the chips may fall! Excellent use of time to watch this documentary!

Experiencing the Words of Jesus: Trusting His Voice, Hearing His Heart by Max Lucado

Experiencing

Jesus’ ministry on this earth only lasted three and a half years, yet in that time His words turned heads, turned hearts, and ultimately turned the world upside down. The words of Jesus offer much to those who have ears to hear. They are His legacy. They are our heritage. In Experiencing the Words of Jesus, you will have the opportunity to hear His voice for yourself.
The words of Christ—discourses, parables, prayers, conversations. Eminently quotable. Undeniably powerful. Eternally true. Let the message that changed the world change your life forever.

******

This was an interesting book. While it was, more specifically, a active workbook, I did just simply read through it. Those bits or “homework” which were expected to be accomplished may have to wait for another time. Although, the way Max Lucado organized this particular book was very telling and very educational. If you desire to learn more on the Lord and Creator of you…Max know how to organize the book for you and the homework you need! I will plan this out to be filled out sometime next year as part of a bible study.

The Sermon On the Mount by Vincent Cheung

Sermon on the Mount

An exposition on the Sermon on the Mount. Topics covered include: the kingdom of God, the Christian counter-culture, the relevance of God’s law, the commandments on murder, adultery, divorce, oaths, retaliation, love, and Jesus’ teachings on biblical inerrancy, hypocritical piety, hypocritical judgment, legalism, materialism, exclusivism, and antinomianism.

*****

Vincent Cheung is a rather prolific writer with respect to the teachings of the bible and the words of Jesus. He is a no-holds-barred teacher who tells you in very brutal terms what is meant by the word of God! Sadly, I must agree with his style of teaching, wherein people within the Christian communities (as a whole) need that fire and brimstone sermons brought forth in their lives. We are now entering into a Politically Correct era where the bible has warned us that:

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. ~Isaiah 5:20 NIV

But regardless of what is to happen, we as Christians MUST, ABSOLUTELY MUST, stand up for what the word of God states. Unlike what many think, to speak truth is not evil…but to say nothing is to acquiesce to the evil at hand.

Great book! Great read! Well worth the time!

Covenant Relationships: A Handbook for Integrity and Loyalty by Asher Intrater

CovenantRelationships

Discover the Biblical Blueprint for Building Relationships that Last!

Even though the topic of relationships is very popular, few individuals ever reach the point of building deep, lasting, and meaningful bonds with others. Why do our connections with other people seem to stay superficial and never go beyond the surface-level? Because we’ve drifted away from the Biblical blueprint of what covenant relationships are intended to look like.

In this revised and updated edition of Asher Intrater’s classic, Covenant Relationships, you will receive time-tested practical keys that show you how to build relationships that:

Are spiritually and emotionally fulfilling for everyone involved.  Remain intact and solid, even in the middle of conflict and disagreement.  Reflect the timeless values outlined in Scripture.  Free people to truly be known by and share life with others.Relationships are the meaning of life!

It’s time to move past the popular “take-it or leave-it” approach and build deep connections based on loyalty, authenticity and covenant.

For God’s people to rise up and walk in new dimensions of love and effectiveness, we must be knit together in covenant relationships!

*********

I was a little taken aback due to the lack of “T”s throughout the titling of sections. I was a bit concerned that it was a bad book, or poor selection. However the overall demeanor of the book was truly enlightening and full of wisdom. It aided me in understanding relationships…and yes, even at 56 I can learn a thing or two on relationship building!

It is truly a wonderful book if you can get past the appearance of bad spelling (i.e. , no “T”s in the titles of the sections throughout the book itself.)

Written on the Heart: The Case for Natural Law by J. Budziszewski

written-heart

Voted one of Christianity Today’s 1998 Books of the Year! With uninterrupted clarity, frequent eloquence and occasional humor, J. Budziszewski presents and defends the natural law tradition in what is at once a primer for students and a vigorous argument for scholars. Written on the Heart expounds the work of the leading architects of theory on natural law, including Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas and John Locke. It also takes up contemporary philosophy, theology and political science, colorfully running against the intimidating tide of advanced pluralism that finds natural law so difficult to tolerate. Throughout the volume, Budziszewski sure-footedly achieves his self-confessed aim of displaying the “subtlety, richness and intellectual surprise” of the natural law tradition.

A bit of a tough read, but well worth it! It is quite an aid in understanding the Natural Law in order to apply it toward the laws of God, as well as, biblical precepts. Natural law is as important, in that, it is but another way to discuss Christian Design to another not of our faith.

Life of Martin Luther by John Frederick William Tischer

[DOWNLOAD abridged version]

Luther

A very interesting book on the life of Martin Luther. Yielding a wealth of information on his upbringing, his time in the monastery and his push toward the reformation.

The thing that stands out most to me is the statement he made at the diet at Worms in 1521, when he was asked to recant his books, pamphlets and stances on the doctrines he was promoting:

Unless I am convinced by the testimony of the Scriptures or by clear reason (for I do not trust either in the pope or in councils alone, since it is well known that they have often erred and contradicted themselves), I am bound by the Scriptures I have quoted and my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and will not recant anything, since it is neither safe nor right to go against conscience. May God help me. Amen.

What daring? What audacity? What courage to speak out at the powers that be (the Romish Church and the pope) letting them know that they were wrong and taught improper and wrong doctrines to the people that followed them. Also, to use the powers at hand in any particular area to use force in order to force others to follow them. This is the power we each need in order to spread the truth. These are the powers we need in order to faithfully follow Jesus’ and hold NO fear of anyone or anything else within our hearts. God will protect our souls, this was a promise; our live He may or may not save from death at any given time. If He does, so be it. If not, then, also, so be it! Let God’s will be done here on earth.

DarwinsBlackBox

Darwin’s Black Box helped to launch the Intelligent Design movement: the argument that nature exhibits evidence of design, beyond Darwinian randomness. Today, with the movement stronger than ever, Michael J. Behe updates the book with an important new Afterword on the state of the debate.

For this edition, Behe has written a major new Afterword tracing the state of the debate in the decade since it began. It is his first major new statement on the subject and will be welcomed by the thousands who wish to continue this intense debate.

*******

While I found this book to be a rather difficult read, it was a worthwhile read. I have listened to several interviews with Dr. Michael J. Behe in the past and found him to be quite engaging on the subject of science and religion. A strong proponent for the Intelligent Design argument and a believer that science upholds many of the discoveries of biblical finds. More importantly, that science truly explains and upholds Intelligent Design as a belief of how life began.

You read and decide for yourself!
